Critters to keep your brush down is a good thing, but around here the mountain lion takes a tax periodically.

Yup - The Circle of Life - For almost every organism there is a predator. Except "house" cats (including feral cats). Nothing that I am aware of is interested in eating them...

Coyotes like cats. There are zero feral cats anywhere near me. The coyotes and hawks keep their ranks nonexistent.

I didn't know that. No coyotes or hawks around here, but plenty of feral cats... Three have taken up residence in the woods behind my house here in Ohio. Tracey likes them and feeds them, and I have to admit they're amusing to watch.

Coyotes have made a comeback in Wisconsin and Indiana that I know of. I see them frequently during the winter. There were three hunting in our neighborhood this past Monday.

We have deer, lots of deer. Sometimes a coyote will run through the yard. Sand cranes at this time of year; 2 in particular have taken to walking through my sub - hopefully to find moles!

Yeah, deer here, too, but less every year since they are building so much and put up big walls on each side of the expressway (I-75) which is about a mile away as the crow flies. Some foxes, skunks, coons, groundhogs. A rabbit now and again, but like the deer (and coons and animals in general) seems like fewer and fewer each year. No coyotes that I am aware of.

Eagles will eat cats, though I don't believe they will kill them. Alligators will get them too. And of course the uncontrolled dog.

Neighbor found the remains of a rabbit that the coyotes got. Nothing left but fur and intestines. Hope they continue to thin the herd. We have a glut of rabbits and they ruin the flowers.

We have them all over here, you find them in the road as much as raccoons and squirrels. Here is one I passed last month... Snapshot 1 (4-28-2016 7-56 AM).png

Typically, the biggest cats we see around our area are bobcats. This morning, though, The Wife sent me a picture from a friend of hers who saw a small mountain lion yesterday near Waterloo, IL ... which is about 35 miles southwest of us. Rumors of their return to Illinois are not greatly exaggerated.

The worst thing about, and the thing that will ruin your Friday is to discover it is only Wednesday. The worse thing would be to discover it is only Monday.

Been awhile. Nice coating of frost on everything this morning, and 27°F. Looks like it's time to drain the hoses and start winterizing the homestead.

Anyone else doing "fun" stuff this weekend?

It's a balmy 12 degrees F here in Milwaukee, WI though we will see a high of -2 degrees on Sunday.
