Web based training for Internal Quality Auditors

    Does anyone know of an effective, web delivered training for Internal Quality System Auditors? Preferrably based on the USA. Publicly available, instructor led courses are often cancelled due to low attendance and I have a client looking for a suitable alternative delivery method.

    Can they develop something in-house? That's what I do. This allows for the inclusion of organization- and job-relevant scenarios to be used in the exercises and discussions. I also bring in real employees for mock audits.

    You mock your auditors? Horrible!

    This is for one employee, so I don't think they will develop training on that basis. Their frustration is that public courses are frequently cancelled... (plus travel is always an expense too!)

    How about Quality University? They have a very comprehensive curriculum on-line.

    I thought the Lead Auditor training on TS 16949 is pretty comprehensive. Do you think that training is effective without actually going through the QMS, Process and Product Audit? When I had my Lead auditor training I had to go through the actual audit and was scored. Anyway the best training I have is on-going training in the Q-Forum and Elsmar Cove.

    I think the best we can hope for here is to "educate" people, not "train". Training develops competencies. Practice and improvement cannot simply come from reading what other people tell you.

    While I can't speak to the value of the content, I know ASQ has some web-based offerings for internal auditing. Note that I'm not endorsing these, just pointing out the availability. Honestly, what little else I've seen out there I'm not sure I would even try much less recommend.
