    Afternoon all
Does anyone have any tips , pictures or methods for identifying WIP while waiting on first off measurement approval.
Was thinking about ID tag, wheels or tracker . Remember to factor in the people factor and try to make as systematic as possible.

Using a colored space (bin, shelf or floor space) that indicates a hold but not NC material has worked for me in the past. If you are a large enough company there are quality steps in most ERP systems that include holds that can only be cleared by special (QA) people. These also work as a ‘suspender’ to the visual ‘belt’.

Thanks for the reply ,with no ERP system it is difficult to implement as the WIP moves from forming / moulding /containment . so what ever is in place needs to move .

Has this been raised as an actual concern by an auditor or just theoretical? As long as you have clear identification of the raw materials going in, and the batch coming out is identified, whether it passes or not does not matter. If it passes, its finished goods label and sell, if it is defective quarantine and hold.

We have had similar internal discussions as we use rolls of material, but once loaded on the machine it technically has no label, until enough parts are run to fill a box and the label gets spat out the WIP is not identified? Never been brought up before and pre IATF checks have not flagged this? Or have I misunderstood.

No miss understanding , the difficulty is that this particular job splits into sets so 4 separate parts combine to make a single set that are inspected and combined in final inspection containment. Making trackability difficult.

Personally I have found traceability through the factory is all about how big of a claim you want to expose yourself to, as long as you can say Batch A went on component batches B,C,D and E, that is fine, it would only save you from recalling all the batches if you narrowed it down to just batch C and E. From the standard you can trace something through and narrow it down in some way. Again it is down to risk, braking systems and steering wheels you probably want 100% traceability, for anything not visual and not safety critical it is up to you to decide? Nowhere in the standard does it say you MUST track every single component, every single step of the way, as long as you define a start and end of the process and can track those two points?
