Our company is putting a bid together, one of the criteria is to install "smiley faces" survey in the dining rooms.

What is everyones take on these type of surveys in gathering metrics to rate a service.

I personally don't rate these type of metrics as customers walking by could just press the unhappy face for a laugh many times, so would not give a true reflection on the service provided.

    Agreed...
If an organization really wants to know what the customer thinks, there are far more effective ways.

It's a bid and this is seemingly one of the Customer's requirements, so you should address it.

If your company is fundamentally disagrees with the approach the Customer wants to take, then it's obviously not a service/product you provide, however, the bid could be used as a platform to sell the approach your organization believes will add more value.
