    Hi

I'm working on a project to implement ISO9001:2015 in my organisation and my leadership team have no experience of Quality Management.

They've asked if there is a good but not too in-depth 'Quality Management for dummies' type book that they could read.

    Any recommendations?

    Lisa

A dilemma is that, thus far, not many have real world, practical implementation experience of ISO 9001:2015 on which to base the book. Many books have been written about management systems and ISO 9001:2015, but they are most likely simple reviews (or worse, hypotheses of) the requirements.

I believe you'd be better off with engaging an experienced consultant in the long run...

    Hi, Lisa.

As Andy has mentioned, there are plenty of books out there for you and your team. I do like "ISO 9001:2015 in Plain English" by Craig Cochran - he's known by many of us here on QFO.

However, reading a book is only good if people understand and can apply what they're reading. If your leadership is committed to this approach, I'd suggest a weekly meeting that follows the "Name in the Hat" approach. Each week, the team is required to read one chapter (and one chapter only). At the meeting, a name is drawn from the hat and that person starts the discussion on what the chapter was about. If the person has not read the chapter, the meeting ends. You do not draw another name as this gives people an "out". You also do not select the name in advance of the meeting because it's another "out" (i.e., I don't have to read the chapter because John is scheduled to talk about it this week). And the name goes back into the hat for the following week because if people believe they can't be called upon, they may not read the chapter.

Discussion highlights include not just the content of what was read, but also how it applies (or could apply) to your organization.

Please you will need a consultant to steer you on the right direction. Even if you think you know it all, you would be surprise to find out the amount of time wasted by not hiring a consultant that is fit for the purpose of your company. You can read the book later on. May I please suggest that you invite one of these super moderator or moderators to visit your company and invest some consultancy money.

Ask your key officers to join QFO. A book can't answer back if you want to ask questions.

After my training, I read this book by Craig Cochran and this is where I found the most practical way of implementing the system. I am sure there are other authors who write books about ISO9001:2015. I can only share my experience being new to this standard. I also learned from the QFO consultants, moderators and super moderators.

I have looked at more than one of these books and found Cochran's to be superior in its explanations and examples.

Maybe, but your book is directed to auditing so I did not include it in my comparison here.
