My organization was recently given advice about our quality policy, namely that it should be made available to the public. We currently have it posted on our internal site, and arranging it to have it on our public site may be a bit of a hassle, as we are part of a larger company.

Would it be acceptable if we just made the quality policy available to anyone that asks for it, or does it specifically need to be made public for anyone to see at any time? Thank you!

Then you were possibly given incorrect advice. Making such a policy "public" and giving it to "interested parties" is quite different. I'd want to ask whomever gave you this advice what they were smoking... or perhaps they were confusing this with the ISO 14001 requirement to make environmental policy available to the public...

The one who made the advice may have intentions based on criteria other than the standard. That's why Andy wanted to ask "what they were smoking". ISO 9001:2015 does not require to make the Quality Policy available to the public. Clause 5.2.2c specifies that: "The quality policy shall be available to relevant interested parties, as appropriate".

We underwent our recert audit last week. The Quality policy was signed, printed, framed and placed in the foyer and compliant.
