I'm seeing more and more discussion about "Quality 4.0". The ASQ have their version and so does the UK's Chartered Quality Institute. Furthermore, the specter of AI - Artificial Intelligence, aka Machine Learning - has become the topic of much discussion. Elon Musk has expounded that AI could lead to the destruction of the Human Race...

FWIW - I think "Quality 4.0" is "Much Ado About Nothing", to quote a Shakespeare play. Sure, some conventional wisdoms about "Quality" may be consigned to the digital dumpster, however, surely we are still dealing with people and their proclivity to make mistakes. "Quality" may become less about products and the creation processes and more strategic in its application, IMHO.

    Your thoughts?

No doubt that we have reached a stage where we CAN apply new techniques to improve quality. Everyone recognizes that manual (human) inspections have limits to effectiveness. Whether you wrap all this up in an 'revolutionary' "Quality 4.0" or simply chalk things up to evolution is debatable.

To put forth another perspective, though, an AI-driven solution to world hunger is to reduce the population. Hmm....

Shock, horror! Very "artificial" and not very "intelligent"...

When AI can effectively manage the 'Culture' aspect of human life, Quality X.0 can revolutionize Quality Culture, potentially rendering the QA profession obsolete.

Hopefully not in the next 20 years. I'm too old to learn how to do anything else!

That is a good example. Very logical but unrealistic. Since Quality Assurance is very much about human behavior, until we are all replaced with robots and algorithms (and good luck with that) I see AI as a tool for mining databases but not doing everything.
