We manufacture printing equipment but not the ink, we have customers asking for PPAP's for the ink. How do we get around this? How can we supply them with information?

Jamie, if you can't dodge this, there's some guidance on PPAPs for bulk materials, available from the AIAG (in the USA) or your local IATF affiliate.

You should get the ink ppap from the ink people. Not sure what the value would be.

We have been trying to get a PPAP from the manufacturer of the ink, but they are in Germany and sell to many different industries and honestly have not responded to any of my emails.

Not surprising. No real value getting a ppap for essentially and off the shelf product. This sounds like some mindless requirement just being pushed down onto you. A conversation with the customer may help, but you are really at the mercy of the ink provider.

Unfortunately you are correct. Is there an "exclusive" or "clause" I can implement when corresponding with my customer? Our inks are automotive approved and we do have certification from our ink supplier, my customer just does not understand that I cannot produce a PPAP for an item that we do not physically manufacture, but just distribute.

I guess you can't force them to understand, but you can't provide what you can't provide.

Is this a new requirement? At my last company and my current company we don't PPAP or IMDS labels or ink.

Over the past year our customers have been asking, prior to that no one asked for a PPAP on ink. I don't know or why the recent requests have been like this. How do you get around this? We do not do IMDS either, I have a letter from my ink supplier that we don't do IMDS either, but my customers insist on it.

It's not that we get around it, its that we haven't been asked.
