Life Cycle Perspective:Audit Assessment & Reporting

Have you seen the web site for ISO 14001 set up by the technical committee ISO/TC 207/SC 1? They have made a page about lifecycle perspective.

Auditors ask questions, but process people need to understand the concept or they might not know how to answer. Lifecycle perspective can mean:
1) Changing from plastic to paper packaging. This is done in product design phase, and can affect end-of life (disposal).
2) Changing configuration from round to square containers. This is also done in product design phase, and can have multiple layers of effects:
2a) fitting more product into a carton, using less cardboard for packaging in preparation for shipment.
2b) fitting more product into a carton, allowing more to be fit onto a truck for transport.
2b)1) allowing more to be fit onto a truck for transport means less fuel used and less carbon into the atmosphere via truck exhaust
2b)2) allowing more to be fit onto a truck for transport means less wear on the roads, meaning less frequent repairs requiring oil-based asphalt
