Does anyone use an online tool for keeping things in check? Just wondering if they are worth the monthly/yearly fees to take some of the hassle away

At an organization I previously worked for, we utilized a document revision subscription. We were able to list the documents/genre for which we wanted updates, and then had the option to purchase if / when a document was revised. I believe the company was called GHS but I see nothing for them now (what I am describing was prox 10 years ago). It was inexpensive and worked well.
