Information on the IRIS standard is very scarce, hopefully this information will help someone get started. Some of this was posted on our prior meeting place, but most of that information was lost. Hopefully this begins to replace some of that. I will post the AAR M1003 matrices on this site eventually also. Maybe we can recreate an all in one resource for the Rail standards.

Note: This site DOES NOT contain the IRIS standard, you have to purchase that, it does contain a commentary on the standard which helps with interpretation.

Here is the link to the site - http://iris-iso.webs.com/

Here is the timeline for the anticipated ISO "version of IRIS".

    - In Q4/2014, the IRIS Steering Committee approved the creation of a working group to investigate options to improve IRIS and its usage in the rail industry,
    - In Q1 and Q2/2015, the working group evaluated in detail the options and made a recommendation,
    - In June 2015, UNIFE Presiding Board approved moving to an ISO standard,
    - In Q3 and Q4/2015, the working group members drafted the update based on customer requirements, ISO 9001:2015 changes and industry recommendations
    - In Q1/2016, new ISO version of IRIS submitted to the International Organization for Standardization
    - In 2017, new ISO version of IRIS released and migration / transfer activities
    - All current IRIS certificates will remain valid until September 14th, 2018, in line with ISO 9001 transition phase,
    - All certification bodies responsible for issuing IRIS/ISO certificates have been informed.

I find it interesting that for every "shall" eliminated in 9001:2008 and 2015, the IRIS version has added a dozen more. (Quality Manual, Business Management System, MR). It seems a knee-jerk reaction against the more 'open' interpretation of the standard (9001), and if completed will represent just one more sector who thinks that 9001 is just not enough on it's own.

Its hard to find IRIS resources if you're not a member of UNIFE. Its quite new standard according to ISO 9001 or TS 16949 and there isn't so many certified companies.

We made application for IRIS standard 4 years ago and there was a re-certification audit last week. There are lots of useful requirements in IRIS standard according to ISO 9001

The biggest difference is project management also implemented in the standard, once you have project management training you already realize the differences of railway industry.

If some of forum member's company would like to have IRIS certificate, first they have to become a member of UNIFE and they'll get IRIS standard and Audit tool automatically.

Audit tool also very useful tool to make internal audit and you'll be ready for the audit, because auditors use the same tool to make audits.

Besides there are some downloadable documents in UNIFE portal to help you understand the requirements of IRIS.
