Requirement : design a intranet site in such way that is user friendly in navigating and has a consistent high-level table contents for each department.
I seek from this forum any guidance, links on the contents, structure to start off with. It is a IT company who mainly delivers IT Products and supports them as well.

I would suggest that you start with a survey to get the requirements/needs of each department for your specific company. Find out what they use on a day to day basis, then make an outline table of contents for each department. Cover the critical elements first, then you can work on adding content for the departments. Plan to cover any regional differences (is your company only located in one part of the world or multiple sites around the world?). This sounds like a huge project, so try to break it up into smaller chunks.
Good luck and hope this helps!
