    Greetings, forum mates,

I will do my best to explain the situation:
Our corporate headquarters located in Europe is IATF certified.
Our team (Project Manager, Purchasing, Quality and Product Engineering) is located in Michigan.
We have engaged a manufacturing facility in Indiana to assemble components _ suppliers selected / managed by us.

The question for the forum _ Do we (team located in Michigan) need to be IATF certified / or the Headquarter located in Europe IATF certification is sufficient?

Good day @Shahid Ali and welcome to the site.

If the Indiana location (I too am located in Indiana), is manufacturing product that is content into IATF eligible vehicles, ...and your organization is first tier to IATF member OEM's, then that site needs to be IATF certified. Indiana can have its autonomous stand alone certification, or, your organization can utilize a corporate scheme, wherein, Indiana is part of the scope and the Europe headquarters 'holds' the certification. Indiana would be included in the 3rd party audits.

The Michigan location and activities are then considered RSL (remote support location) and are subject to audit for their limited supporting activities).

    Hope this helps.
    Be well.

Under the rules, (haven't seen the very latest) I don't believe a non-product manufacturing facility which performs these activities CAN be IATF 16949 certified. The golden rule (again, I haven't seen the latest IATF Rules book) makes it clear that ONLY a manufacturing facility can be IATF Certified. Personally, I find it very off that "design" is considered a "support" function (sounds like a mantra I used to hear back in the 90's about manufacturing being "king"). My friend @John C. Abnet will correct me on the rules latest if I got things wrong!

@Andy Nichols is correct. The current 'rules 6th' are not changed in regard to base eligibility, which is as follows... upload_2024-7-17_11-4-56.png

Thank you, Andy. I am old enough to have heard those 90's "rumors" about manufacturing being the King.
