    Hello all,

I had some interesting conversation the other day and wanted to confirm with more experienced people.

Previously, as Quality Assurance, I have done verification of different measurement tools with results easily retrieved and traced. I used to put my labels with tool ID, next calibration due and my initials. Never had a problem. They were all verified using externally calibrated tools.

Now in different company a verifying equipment was calibrated externally. A label had fallen off so I was about to issue our label that states when the tool was calibrated and when next calibration is due. I was questioned if I am competent to put that label on. In my mind it is administrative task to make sure guys on the shop floor know it is good to use. They do not see calibration certificates.

My question is, can quality assurance, compliance, quality engineering person put a label on if they have a proof of Calibration Certificate?

Sure they can! But why use labels, if they fall off? What's the point of putting a sticker on anyway?

What @Andy Nichols said @Kristi . For example, if the device has a serial number or some other discrete identifier (or even if by description if possible/if '1 of 1'), and that device can be traced to the verification/calibration status, then you're good to go.

    Hope this helps.

    Be well.

    Thank you for your answers.
Labels are originally put by the Calibration House. This also gives an idea about the status of the tool, that they are in calibration and can be used.

I noticed labels had fallen off from some other heavily used measurement tools. I think I am going to print out the lists of calibrated tools within each area.
