In aerospace, is it normal for AS9100 internal audits to last 1-2 months in duration? Our company is covering 3-4 processes for certain categories (e.g., D&D, Purchasing). It could take up to two months to complete an audit. Seems like a long time? Anyway we can shorten that timeframe to say 1-10 days? Could we focus on the more risky processes or processes with most historical issues? Any advice?

    Owie! Noooo...

What could possibly take that long? 1-10 days? maybe 1 or 2. I'd need to understand more about what the scope and criteria for these audits is. Who did the training for the auditors?

Basically that time includes planning, conducting the audit, gathering evidence, reviewing everything and then writing the report. All in all 1-2 months. However, it all seems too long? We have two main factories that we audit, we audit all processes in one year. I was thinking maybe instead of auditing all processes, audit only those that carry the greatest impact and risk? We only have two full time auditors. It’s a lot of work. What advice do you have to streamline or lessen the work load? Also, what advice can you give on limiting CA? Should we focus only on major NC to lessen to the work load? My view is that not everything we find needs to turn into a CA?

Why are you auditing everything once a year? What is the scope of each audit? What's involved in planning each audit? If you'd share your audit schedule, process, forms etc I can review them. DM me and I'll give you an email address. NDA if necessary, too.
