    Good morning!

We are going through our ISO 14001 recertification audit and the auditors have brought up that we are not meeting 8.2 (d) periodically test the planned response actions, where practicable, because we are not doing spill drills. We do fire and tornado drills as well as annual trainings on spill clean up and SPCC.

I have a hard time seeing that spill drills are a direct requirement in the standard. Has anyone else experienced this?

    Thanks!

Hi Carlee! Sounds like a stretch to me! Did the auditors check to see if people were unclear on what should happen in case of a spill? Like not knowing where a spill kit is located, how to use it, who to inform etc?
If they write an nc, simply reject it to their Ops management after the audit is over, to avoid confrontation.

Thank you Andy. No - operators have not been interviewed regarding spill procedures. There was even an operator who during the environmental awareness question brought up how they handle spills and how it is important to do this appropriately.

    Thanks for the feedback.
