I am so excited to say that after a couple of phones, I was told that all the debt on my report will be wiped clean in the next 4 weeks.

With my tax refund, I am able to pay almost everything off. I have a collection of small medical bills, which is handled by one credit agency at this time. I asked them if I paid half of the total amount owed, and then made a payment plan for the rest, if they would remove the debt from my report.

    And they said yes!!!

I am so excited to get my report cleaned up and with the help of my credit card I should be on my way to owning a home in the next few months :) :) :)

    Congratulations Nikki,

Sounds like you've got a handle on things now and a good path moving forward. Take care and stay on the path (it's so very tempting to wander :) )

Don't be surprised, however, if "cleaned up" takes a little longer than you hope. A credit report is a report of credit history...not just current standing.
Live the excitement of getting out from under...but don't be blind-sided when you fill out your mortgage app.
It takes time...but it does happen...keep up the great work!

I thought I would share some information that I obtained while going through this process. My initial question was "Will paying off collections raise my credit score?" And the answer is YES! It definitely does. Through this journey my credit score has jumped 40 points just by paying off collections. The credit card I obtained also has boosted my score significantly.

I am a mere $167 dollars away from being debt free and I am so excited to achieve my dream of putting my family into a "home". My home!

Hee..hee.. Sorry... I am just so beyond excited to achieve what I thought was the impossible.

Buying a home is a great feeling... paying it off is even better... more than the exhilaration you feel now at being almost debt-free. Congratulations Nikki on reaching your goal!
