Well, I have searched a lot but cannot find the answer, so hopefully someone more knowledgeable can help!

Company 'A' purchased Company 'B' last year and transfered Company 'B's ISO9001:2008 certification to its own certification body. A successful audit was done of the QMS of 'B' at the end of last year and a new certificate issued with an expiry of 15 September 2018. So 'A' has an ISO9001:2008 certificate as does 'B', with each certificate being in the name of the individual company.

The board decided after Christmas to merge 'B' fully into 'A', which is taking place at the end of this month, meaning that both will trade as company 'A'. Now here is the issue. The scope of both companies are slightly different, with 'B' offering more product types (distributor type businesses) and an important customer has picked this up stating that their purchasing system will not allow them to place orders for products, after the 1st June, if that product type is not in the scope.

We have the transition audit (to ISO9001:2015) booked for mid July, which is when the revised scope will be applied, but that leaves a 6 week period that may see this customer go elsewhere.

Any suggestions as to a way round this? I appreciate that our certification body will not be able to amend the scope of 'A's certificate until the audit, but wondered if there is anything in the 'rules' to cover such an event?

    Thanks in advance

    Steve

Did you communicate your dates to the customer? There's nothing much you can do at this point since most CBs have no bandwidth to handle schedule changes at this point of ISO 9001:2015 transition. It's not really a rules thing, more a simple availability issue.

Hi Andy. Yes, the dates have been communicated. Their apparent inflexibility seems typical of large aerospace companies! I had even wondered about asking our CB to write a letter stating that they had audited both companies (which operate out of the same premises), within a month of each other and as both QMS's and working practices are very similar they are satisfied that customer satisfaction would not be compromised. However, I don't thinks its within their own registration criteria.

I definitely wouldn't even consider another audit ahead of July just to undertake a scope expansion.

    Thanks anyway

Who is the intransigent? Purchasing or Quality? If it's Purchasing, maybe an email to the Quality folks (they will be somewhat aware of the audit timing nuances) and draw attention to your past previous quality performance and get them to take up the issue with Purchasing...

In addition to the quality department and go to the production people. Let "purchasing" explain why production can't produce anything because purchasing in an idiot. Good luck.
