A quick question if I may as I can't seem to find an answer elsewhere...are the FMEA forms found in the AIAG & VDA FMEA Handbook required forms or are we allowed to use something similar? I can't seem to anything definitize in the handbook, itself.

    Welcome to QFO Dale!

I was once an internal auditor for (then TS) 16949, and got into a discussion with the CB auditor when he asked why we were not using the FMEA Manual template. We had all the same information, it just didn't look the same. He insisted "You WILL use the FMEA Manual form or I will give you a nonconformance!" whereupon I flipped through the standard rather dramatically and said "Oh! Oh! Where does it say I must use those exact forms? Can you show me?" in fact, the standard said "should" versus "shall" - he said he was going to write the nonconformity but never did. Case closed.

I don't have the most recent version of 16949 so I leave it to you to comb through it and highlight the "should" and "shall" terms. I suspect it still does not require using the FMEA Manual's forms.

I can't see that "similar" will accomplish the same thing Dale. The method(s) of the AIAG/VDA 7 step process are going to dictate, pretty much, how the form is going to end up. Are you aware of the "color-coding" which is used, for example? (and the benefit which comes with that?)
