SPC for batch production: cutting tool manufacturing

    dear all, we are into the cutting tool manufacturing. so our production system is obviously batch production system. so in one cnc machine we will be producing different products with different geometry in a shift, so how to implement spc in this case, and how to control critical geometry

    Infinity QS is definitely the best software solution.
    coming at your question from a different angle: can you clarify what you are really asking? implementing SPC in your environment is really no different than in any other environment, so I'm not quite sure what your concern is?

    What is your batch size for each product? There is a simple technique involving no calculations; the only condition is that the process must be normal & centered with Cpk not less than 1. It is an old technique that I have used in small batch production. It is called Pre-Control. You can find the details in Juran's Quality HB Edition V, Chapter 46 page 1314

    I'll monitor (using the appropriate variable control chart) separately each product with the critical geometry. Subgroups should consist of measured values representing only a single tool for a specific product with a specific critical geometry. Determining those that with critical geometry will depend on factors such as those with customers' special characteristics, those with high priority level as per your FMEA, etc.
