Document for Quality Audit

    Rohan: Welcome. We'll need to understand what you mean by "project scope" so we can put it into context of a quality audit. Also, what type of quality audit are you asking about? Internal? Customer? Certification?

    Hi, we were doing internal audit for quality. We are from Inhouse IT team. As per me Project scope is never consider during quality audit as it is the agreement between client and IT team. As project scope is not a delivery for an IT team. Had a strange argument with my colleague who state as this document need to be present during a quality document.

    An audit does not typically have a project scope, but there is a scope to it. Similar to the process of project management, the scope's purpose is to provide the boundaries of the activity...in your case, Rohan, an audit. Scope could include:

    • Processes
    • Departments
    • Time frame
    • Personnel you will be meeting with
    • Standard requirements/clauses

    You could also include a statement that indicates what is out-of-scope.

    I do admit that an "audit for quality" is rather vague sounding. What criteria is your team using to determine what "quality" is (or is not)?

    I agree! If there's a disagreement about what's in or out of the audit (scope) then there's a problem with a) the audit criteria (what reference you are auditing against and b) what the actual audit scope is. So, Rohan, what are your audit scope and criteria? If you have none, go back and start again, with a clear definition of those important things.

    I believe Rohan and his colleague mistakenly equate the IT services Project Scope with the QMS Scope.
