ISO9001 and TS16949 Standards Revisions

    This is a revival of a thread from Elsmar Cove detailing the current revisions of the standards necessary to implement an ISO9001 and ISO/TS16949 compliant QMS. I check these revisions and update this "Normative Reference" quarterly as part of Management Review.

    Does anyone know if you can get by with saving your last approved document in your system where it is controlled and not have to keep all of the previous levels of changes as long as the people are using the latest approved document in system? There is no value added or storage capacity to keep the prior levels of job procedures as long as the latest is all that is available for use. Just curious. Any feedback would be great.

    Why would you want to keep obsolete documents unless you retain them for reference during training for example. I would dispose obsolete documents in a controlled way. Hope this helps.:)

    ISO 13485 does mandate retention of obsolete documents, but it might be a good idea to keep one copy of obsolete documents for knowledge preservation purposes. To prevent circular revisions, etc.

    When investigating cause of an issue it can help to see what the previous version of the procedure said.
