I have to confess that I am a total newbie to ISO 14001 AND 18001 standards.
I have read both standards and am wondering what the following documents would look like.
    1. A legal register
    2. How to document / demonstrate how you evaluated compliance.
Can some one please shed some light on this i.e. how these look in practice or better still post a sample template.
    Cheers!

I'll see if I can get you something on Monday, unless somebody can provide something before then. I have set up a database rather than an ordinary list, in order to enable filtering and searching our way through the contents.

Legal registers are not usually more than a list of requirements the system must adhere to.

It may be useful to use a compliance calendar to track all the needed actions. This can help facilitate the compliance audit process, which is a detailed review of operational controls, monitoring and measurement including formulas and results, and the actions the organization takes in response to those results. This is often done by traveling corporate teams but may be done by a cross-functional management team if you don't have corporate EHS experts to draw on.

Penn State has published an example compliance calendar on the internet. It looks like it includes about everything except the actual codes. It might be nice to set hyperlinks to the EPA and OSHA site pages where those codes can be referenced.

The Old Dominion University example does a nicer job of listing the requirements including description, also the specific codes.

    I hope this helps!

    Hi again,

I'll give you a quick and dirty translation of the headlines in the database I mentioned (obviously written in Swedish):
    • Title (Law/legislation no and so on).
    • Tick boxes for applicable standards (ISO 9001, 14001, 50111 and/or OHSAS 18001.
    • A brief summary of content.
    • How it affects us (What we have to do).
    • What we do in order to fulfil it.
    • How we check compliance.
    • Action needed
    • Who is responsible
    • Date for latest update
All fields are littered with links to written procedures, laws, group standards, and so on.

    /Claes
