3.3.3 just defines life cycle. In the older versions of ISO 14001, you needed to determine the aspects related to your activities, services or products. A lot of companies focused only on the activities. ISO 14001 strengthens the requirement to look at your products as well. 3.3.3 assists the organization in determining the aspects of their products by laying out what things to consider regarding your product from cradle to grave. But even then, 6.1.2 limits the consideration of the life cycle to those things that are under your control or influence. For example, a company that blow molds plastic bottles might not have any influence on the oil companies drilling for oil. They may, however be able to influence the end user to recycle by placing recycling information on the bottle. Hopefully that helps... somewhat.

    What is your product?

Have you noticed changes in packaging for some foods? Lighter weight materials and square designs... A paper on the environmental impacts of food packaging helps show the lifecycle considerations of packaging. If we also consider that more square containers can fit into the carton than round ones, there is an additional savings on the corrugated boxes (and their spectrum of production and waste handling) as well as more fitting on a transport vehicle: that means less wear on the roads, less tire wear, less petrochemical use, less carbon in the air... On and on by simply changing the packaging.

We just completed the transition to ISO14001:2016. Thank you Jennifer for this post. The presentation of life cycle was acceptable.

During the presentation of a lifecycle, we presented ours in a form of a flow diagram as we move the product from the inbound to outbound taking into consideration the packaging materials and other materials that touch our product.
